tv+land line HELP!?!?!?

A land line connection is often said to be required for satellite television as it is used primarily for ordering pay-per-view movies by remote, but also to make sure additional receivers on the same account aren't being used in other households. DVR's (a.k.a. PVR's) like Tivo, whether satellite or not require the use of a land line connection to update their program guides as well as keeping the software for the box updated. High Definition doesn't change any of this one bit. If you don't need a land line for what you have now, it won't be any different if you upgrade to HD. Only if you switch to satellite (on more than one TV or want to order PPV movies) or start using a PVR will you need to have a land line....Show more
