is your tax return taxed?

Foster Padgette: No, contact IRS at 1-800-829-0922 or 1-800-829-8374 to find out why your tax REFUND was for a lesser amount. If you had a IRS debt for a prior year IRS would have to offset your tax refund. IRS will be sending you a letter to explain the amount of refund you received.

Houston Venezia: That's not what happened. I assume you mean you got your refund back and it was smaller than you expected it to be? If that's the case, either you must have made a mistake when you filled out your forms, or you owed the IRS some money for some other reason (child support? delinquent student loans? back taxes?) The IRS does not "tax" your tax refund....Show more

Ester Bryand: Your refund isn't taxed. The deduction had to be for something else. If you don't get a letter in a week or so saying why it was less than you expected, call the IRS and ask.

Sook Hershkowitz: No it isn't.

Francisco Schonhardt: Federal tax refunds are not taxable; however, the! IRS may have withheld part of your refund if you had a balance due on prior year returns. Or your refund may have been smaller than what you calculated. You should receive something from the IRS if either of those things has happened, but you can also find out by contacting them directly at 1-800-829-1040.

Sol Allphin: i wish i'll trade you my $450 bill for your return
