what can i do if my car was repaired without my authorization?

Dee Depung: There are some companies that will not allow you to drive the vehicle out without doing the repairs on it due to safety issues. I had this experience with the car that I once owned that the brake pads were at like 10% and they said that there was NO way that I was going to drive off of the lot with that little brake pad left. That is probably what the repair guy thought too, is that he didn't want to let a car off of his site with a blown head gasket that could cause even worse problems, and that he would be fined or sued if something went wrong. As woman to woman, unfortunately, these things are the way that they are, and sometimes we have control over things. You could try and go to a credit agency, that will be able to help you. But that is one of the only suggestions that I have for you. Also, if your friend did sign a form, I would get a copy of this form for your records, incase you need to start a legal case on this.Hope that this helps....Show more

Merna Fauset: This can get complicated. On the one hand, you only need to pay for work you authorized. But if you authorized your friend to act as your agent (because he had a phone and you did not), then any work he agrees to must be paid for. One of the strongest laws on the books is one regarding a "mechanics lein". This law is meant to protect a mechanic who performs an authorized repair. If he doesn't get paid, he takes posession of the vehicle. An improperly installed water pump could cause your engine to overheat which could cause a failed head gasket and often a warped cylinder head. If you saw the engine temperature gauge show hot and you kept on driving, you are at fault. If you needed a head gasket, a $1500 repair bill is very inexpensive. Cars are complicted pieces of machinery. They must be maintained properly. That costs money. If you can't afford to pay for the repairs, either learn how to do the work yourself, or ride the bus....Show more

Ambrose ! Mumma: If you signed a repair authorization, you are on the ho! ok.If some one else signed it for you, you are still on the hook. The first repair guy sounds like a dufuss, and if you didn't sign anything at all, I would be contacting your states Attorney General, and the better business bereau. Because you are still unsure if the car is truly repaired to your satisfaction, if you hand over money at this point, you may not see it again, and the car may still not be repaired properly. Let the guy know that you will be contacting the Attorney General. That usually will "adjust" his attitude.Good luck....Show more
