Rental car insurance -- what does it cover?

Cristopher Gavalis: Yes, it would cover it, and if you get into an auto accident, and it's your fault, you're covered. Otherwise you have to pay for their car plus the rental car. It's always best to be safe than sorry. Also, when you rent a car, a representative always looks over the car and notes down any prior damage to the vehicle. And, I would walk around the car with that person and point any dings or scratches out so they notate that down, so you won't be blamed for it when you arrive back....Show more

Coleman Deliberato: All rental cars come with liability insurance in case you run into someone else. What you are buying as insurance is Collision Damage Waiver which covers any damage to the rental car itself. If you bring the car back with a new dent then it covers the cost of repairing that dent. If you are a careful driver and are careful as to where you park the car then CDW is a big rip off. Your likely hood of damaging the rental car is almost nil. Also y! our own insurance may cover the loss. Another type insurance that they sell is Personal Accident Insurance. That covers your personal injuries if you have an accident. It is an even bigger rip off. I worked at a big rental car company and those insurance charges were huge money makers....Show more

Barton Morfee: lol, check you auto insurance for your personal vehicle and see if it covers rental cars. they get you on that constantly, and they won't tell you that if you have decent auto insurance it will cover rentals.call your insurance agent with your policy number and ask them if/what your policy covers.
