Neville Dautremont: I have a HUUUUGE list available at www agua-luna com it's like 33 pages long & would just spam this whole answer. But here's a few cut from the list below. If you'd like the entire list feel free to visit www agua-luna com or email me through the site directly & Iâll send you a free copy. Also Agua-Luna com now offers Carbon Offsetting Credits, since our Team of Volunteers is already accomplishing several carbon eliminating projects, weâre now converting the carbon offsets to you. Visit www agua-luna com for a FREE carbon calculator to calculate your carbon footprint for free & more info on carbon credits. You could also Volunteer with us, planting a tree or working on a Sustainable Renewable Energy Building Project in Mexico OR The Amazon. Again see www agua-luna com for more info.If you canât join us here are some ways you can at least contribute from home..Recycle paper, cardboard, newsprint & magazines. Recycle aluminum cans. Recycle all batte! ries. Recycle & reuse. Roughly 50% of the average person's trash can be recycled. Don't forget that hazardous waste like batteries, your printer's ink cartridges, & cell phones can be recycled too! Find out how & where to recycle in your area. Always buy recycled paper. Just 1 ton of recycled paper saves 17 trees.Just because your community doesn't pick up all recyclables on the curb, it doesn't mean there are not viable alternatives nearby. Check with dry cleaners, supermarkets, manufacturers, your local public works department & civic organizations to find out where recycled goods can be dropped off, at a location near you. Did you know that just in 1995 alone, recycled toner cartridges kept over 21,000 tons of trash out of landfills? Believe it or not, now you can recycle your printer's toner cartridges! Every year, Americans throw out enough printer cartridges to stretch from Los Angeles to New York City & back again. Toner cartridges can be recycled, having just as goo! d a performance as an unrecycled cartridge. To recycle your to! ner cartridges, find a local business that does printer cartridge recycling, or contact the manufacturer of your current toner cartridge & ask about a cartridge recycling program. Not only should you recycle, but buy products that are recycled. By purchasing these products, you are helping to conserve natural resources, & to protect the environment. Wash clothes in cold water.Hot water is unnecessary for most clothes. When needed, use warm water. Fill your toilet tank.Put a plastic bottle or two, filled with water & rocks, in your tank to reduce the amount of water used in each flush. Clean your filters.Clean the filters of your air-conditioners once a month to improve energy efficiency. While youâre at it, change your carâs filters as recommended in your manual. Get a low-flow shower head.Stop at the hardware store on your way home, & get a low-flow shower head. Takes a few minutes to install, & itâll save gallons of water a day. Lower your thermostats. If you use hea! ting, get by with less heat & wear warmer clothes. If you use air-conditioning, get by with less cooling & wear cooler clothes. If itâs a nice sunny day, hanging clothes only takes a few minutes, & youâre using solar power instead of electricity to do the job. It also makes your clothes last longer. Turn down your water heater. Most people have their water heaterâs thermostat turned up too high, wasting energy. Turn it down to 130 degrees, saving energy but still hot enough to kill bacteria.Use CFC light bulbs.Hope this helped, feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions if youâd like assistance in making your first self sufficient steps, Iâm willing to walk you step by step threw the process. Iâve written several how-to DIY guides available at www agua-luna com on the subject. I also offer online & on-site workshops, seminars & internships to help others help the environment.Dan Martin...Show more
Rebeca Mckin: Don't use plastic watre bott! les, use reusable ones.Don't use paper bags, get a lunch box.Don't use ! grocery bags, use tote bags.Reuse things such as water bottles, toilet paper rolls, ect. to make crafts or other things.Recycle. (duh)
Marti Declue: Who is your target audience? That will in part determine things that are green/greener and still doable. Borrow from some of those daily column writers in local papers. They may have a general, localized topic of some sort. But, before they're done they have data and information from a number of other sources that pad out and actually make the article. For example, your article topic could be on simply not littering. It is a very simple green thing that most of us should be able to do. It is so simple that there's not much more to write about in terms of actual doing. However, there is all sorts of information and data about littering, how far a piece of ocean litter can travel, and more. On the home front, it does things like impact storm drains with serious consequence. But, even in most inner cities, there is ! some type of dirt with worms and other critters. Litter negatively impacts these ecosystems. It is not asthetically pleasing. You may be able to dig up some litter patrol/pick-up costs; typically done in the name of public safety for the purpose of curbing insect and rodent problems. But, we alternatively use those same public saftey dollars for how many flu shots? The first three R's are Reduce, Re-use, and Re-purpose; the fourth is Recycle. If you want to know how to accomplish these first three things - turn to the frugal living folks. These first three R's are the corner stone to what they are all about. Further, since what they do is also save money, their suggestions could also provide additional incentive amoung your readers. Don't allow for any untouchable, sacred items. It seems to me that impulse buying is responsible for a large number of the things I see going in the garbage box at the transfer station; they are also the things of garage sales. An art! icle idea may be about how to assess one's clothes closet, make a list ! of wanted/needed items, and then shop for things on the list as opposed to those that line the main aisles of stores. An article idea may be about buying better quality for some items so that they end up being less disposable. Our great grandmothers and grandmothers expected to buy a kitchen appliance for a "good 20 years" not 2. Buying decent quality kitchen ladles, pancake turners, etc... can save money in 1 to 5 short years at which point they "make money" over buying more inexpensive items more frequently. The frugal folks have all sorts of food, cleaning, and more recipies. Then, there are all sorts of issues surrounding the purchase and use of plastics. Don't forget that humans are critters too that can be harmed by chemicals; in fact the last several EPA yard chemical bans cited humans as the harmed species. There are all sorts of human health issues and controversaries surrounding the use of modified startches and high fructose corn syrup in prepared and par! tically pre-pared foods. Health concerns aside, these items also come in packaging. A number of the product safety issues can be drawn into the green living life-style as well.Re-using purchased containers and packaging would be a super article topic(s). Of course there are a number of glass, plastic, and metal containers that lend themselves to basically re-use. But, cereal box and other food stuff cardboard can be cut into pieces and the insides used for things from list writing to the base for any one of a number of craft projects. There are any one of a number of "scrap" or "junk" crafting that can be done. One simple one is to use thin foam, foam meat trays, cardboard from boxes, thin plastic lids, and even edges of plastic items upon one traces cookie cutter or similar shapes, cuts out, optionally paints or decorates, and hangs as gift tags, outdoor tree decorations, indoor tree decorations, or to make mobiles. I would start some self-brain storming. Just lists! of things that you do, things you know others do, things that you ferr! et out. Initially, pick those that you can get some good articles out of reasonably easily. Of the remaining list, start writing a paragraph or two for each. You may find that some will combine into an article, some you will need more info for, and some you will simply finish off later. In the mean time, keep poking around for the "standards" and ideas from the non-traditional, environmental/green living worlds. Oh, by the way. I've concluded that the one single thing folks can do towards green living is keep healthy. Everytime one needs serious medical intervention or begins managing a chronic condition, one heck of a lot of resources start being used. True, dollars are one of those resources. But in terms of "stuff", unrecyclable waste, and energy a whole lot is used....Show more

Leora Klingelhoets: Here's a good start. Are you are aware of "NASA's Clean Air Plant Study" completed several years ago? "Common indoor plants may provide a valuable weapon in the fight against rising levels of indoor air pollution. Those plants in your office or home are not only decorative, but NASA scientists are finding them to be surprisingly useful in absorbing potentially harmful gases and cleaning the air inside modern buildings.""NASA research has consistently shown that living, green and flowering plants can remove several toxic chemicals from the air in building interiors. You can use plants in your home or office to improve the quality of the air to make it a more pleasant place to live and work - where people feel better, perform better, and enjoy life more."TOP 10 plants most effective in removing: formaldehyde, benzene, and carbon mo! noxide from the air. Craig Virani: Hi, I would agree with the previous response. Start with the easy to acheive - it made me feel better and more motived to do or take on more challenging stuff. From there, well it will depend on how far you are willing to contribute. He's a link to some home energy saving tips below as starting point.., BTW the photo on this page is quite good.
Roosevelt Pendill: I actually teach people to convert their house to 'green' products. If I could do something about my water bottle situation, then I can happily say that I am green!
