Home made laundry detergent?

Patricia Bolduc: I'm not sure if it works or not, but it really isn't that "Green". Borax is a poison. Plus, it doesn't break down like Clorox and Oxygen bleaches do.As for laundry detergent...I'm sure some are more environmentally friendly than others. Babette Deloe: I use something similar to that recipe. 1 bar of felz naptha laundry soap, 3 cups arm and hammer washing soda (different from baking soda), and 3 cups borax. I started using it when money was a little tight but I keep using it because it works. I had a shirt that I had washed with every stain remover I could get my hands on. After washing it several times with the homemade stuff the stain was gone. I've also started using a homemade fabric softener of sorts. half a cup or so of baking soda, about 2 cups of vinegar, and enough water to make about half a gallon. I missed the smell of regular fabric softener so I started adding a capful of my favorite snuggles. it works great....Show more
