for people that dislike poetry?

Clinton Migliori: I wrote this when I was mad about something. It's about this pile of dead bodies that have done bad deeds when they were alive. So they miss being able to love after they took love for granted. This is how it goes...So love at lastIs seen arisingWhilst the sun, so calmIs born of nightLike flowering,Yet beyond its bloomLuminous to darknessUpon its sightThere's a smithereenOf an omneity of bonesWith a lingering desireTo exist once more in blissSouls, entangled...Eternally stuckLike old stoneIn abyssTheir eyes shut to blackestAnd purple lips stitchedChained in a hell pileLying in a destined bedAmongst each otherThey share their regretsWatching this...repeatedlyNow cold...and dead...Show more

Evelin Turlich: Me fan too.

Heidy Fujikake: every one is entitled to an opinion, but get facts straight, GOOD poetry is not something anyone can do, some stuff on here is CRAP, just like rap, and yes most songs ARE free verse poems!

Lauri Ohl: Poetry is not necessarily unrealistic. More often than not, they were written as something that people can relate to. My own poetry, for instance, is based in ideas, and generally realistic. Exaggerated? Perhaps a bit, but mostly it only uses metaphors to make a point. It depe! nds on the style, really. That's the thing- there are no limit! s. There's actually relatively few butterflies, from what I've read. Anyone can write a poem, sure, but in the same way that anyone can write a story or a song. They can write it, but it may not turn out as well as it could.Poetry, in essence, is truth. It may seem otherwise, but to get a point across. If you read into it, it's more realistic than it might seem at first glance. Figuring out poetry also happens to be great for the mind- it takes intellect to read into it, and find all the tricks and whatnot, discover what the poem really means. As for Plato... different people like different things. There are plenty of people just as smart as him (regardless of whether or not they're as well known) who do enjoy poetry. Can one man's word turn an entire population against something? It shouldn't.All in all, I hope to make it clear that I completely disagree with this article....Show more

Dalila Yoon: u hav to feel the words not just read iti cant explain but u should pa! y attention to the words and read them with some feeling then u would understand and poems are hard to writeit expresses pplz feelings

Ayesha Genova: I think the article is very narrow minded and obviously written by one who has not read into very much poetry.Poetry can be described as writing feeling. It can elicit a deeper meaning and response into a passage of text than just describing something physical.I am an Electrical Engineer and have never been one for the arts but I can appreciate some poems. The reality is that music lyrics actually ARE poems, even if they don't rhyme they tell a story. There was another famous philosopher that loved poetry (one of MANY), you may have heard of him, his name is Friedrich Nietzsche. And I can tell you his poems aren't about butterflies and flowers. A poem is like someone's thoughts that you can read an interpret. You don't have to 'buy into' them. I don't know where you're getting this idea bout it poisoning your mind.! ...Show more

Virgil Loatman: problematic situation. try searching! on google and yahoo. just that can assist!

Maria Devenney: Poetry is something relatively own so it relatively should not be counted what persons think of of it. on no account enable human beings get to you thru asserting your paintings isn't good sufficient by using fact they'd properly be unappreciative of issues that deviate from the norm. If all people provides up in what they suspect in by using fact that isn't any longer properly-known by the masses, then the international would've been long void of great skills, who've made their mark going against the bypass. in my opinion I kinda like what you have written. besides the incontrovertible fact that, from time to time making use of less demanding and extra direct words would help it to bypass and convey the assumption extra proper. words like "cerulean" sounds too 'inflexible' for that reason would disrupt the final bypass of it. With that reported, you have nonetheless have been given a extraordinarily unwell p! iece of artwork. good pastime mate!...Show more

Ewa Homrich: all poetry, or poemhunter.com, i use both of these and got some good comments on, why dont you post your poems on here and ask for creative criticism? you might get more of a response

Keven Woodington: I heartily disagreeSure anyone can write poetry, but not just anyone can write good poetry. Then the person goes on to say.. "I could never seriously write one(poem)". Which makes no sense since they just stated that "anyone can write poetry". I truly wonder how much good poetry this person has read, it seems doubtful that they have really looked into it much.. other than to take a quick glance, get frustrated because they couldn't grasp it and then spent the rest of the time bashing it just because they didn't "get it". As for poetry being like MTV.. well mainstream poetry could be compared to that, but look deeper and you'll find real stuff that isn't crap and you'll know it. Truly great poetry doesn'! t poison your mental state.. it strikes a profound chord deep within it! . Great poetry augments your own emotions and ideas and creates a long-lasting impression. Truth is a poets best weapon.. sometimes it is much more effective to voice your feelings about something in a poem.. and because it resonates emotionally and linguistically people are more likely to be touched or affected and often thrown into silent reverie. Poetry is emotion, it is truth, it is exaggeration to highlight a point or idea, it is literally emotional imagery, and it is deeply and profoundly satisfying. As far as I know, exploring your emotional state is not harmful to your mental state.. in fact it is beneficial. As for the last lines.. that is a logical fallacy, known as "argument from authority". Just because someone is well-known or an authority figure does not mean that their word or opinion discredits anything and everything. It's like saying van Gogh(one of the worlds greatest artists) cut off his ears. You should too if you want to make good art. See? makes no se! nse.. ...Show more

Jodie Capella: I agree with you about the part about MTV. Whatever happened to the music? The rest of it is just plain sic.

Emery Blando: I disagree with you opinion. Poetry is a way to express yourself In ways you cannot to others. There not only about flowers or bugs or w.e they can be way more than that. Many people could write one. But it takes someone with a lot of emotion to. No it's not just "emo" people. I don't even like that word if I'm being honest. But it can be anyone.

Donte Hamme: Great question. Here's a great answer: http://www.fliprap.com -check the Poetry Castle section and Poetry Arena there!

Gregory Dilg: i want lots of creative criticism so it cant be to big thanks ^-^

Jestine Osumi: Poetry is one of the most expressive and open forms of writing of all time. It's not a novel, it's short, contains many writing clues, and possible hidden stories, and doesn't even have to make sense. It rules.

Geor! gina Natal: i think that article is 100% correct poetry is nothin but a! waste of time i totally agree

Jinny Dronen: Maybe this person feels this way because they just don't understand a lot of poetry. Songs ARE poems....with music added. It's kind of like people paying no attention to Van Gogh's art.....until he died.

Cole Desher: This is fantastic good job

Jesse Japak: Me. Like and write poetry. Smart woman. People liking poetry doesn't make them stupid, so whatever you are trying to pull there failed. Poetry- Has different genres, and different levels of expressions, different stanzas, some rhyme, some do not, some tell stories, and some tell feelings, all poems are different in length, style and format, there for poetry isn't some stupid ramble on paper that i think you were trying to make it be. Music is written in the same form and stanzas as poetry in some cases. Songs also have rhyme and rhythm, hence rap. Some music tells stories, or expresses emotions. Either your still in 4th grade and just choosing to hate someth! ing. Or you have nothing better to say or do with your time, but make no sense by bashing something.Oh and by the way poems are not always unrealistic it depends on the genre of a poem or what the poem is portraying. So no i cant agree with you. Reading your article made me feel stupider. So excuse me while i read more entertaining and meaningful pieces so i can feel like i didn't just drop my IQ by reading this article....Show more

Jill Thomer: Can I suggest http://poetsanctuary.proboards.com/ ? It's really good, there are lots of people on there who like to write and comment on poetry.
